Canadian Experience Class

The Canadian Experience Class ( CEC ) is a permanent resident category for individuals with skilled work experience in Canada. It was developed for temporary foreign workers and foreign graduates with qualifying Canadian work experience.

This is one of the most important and popular program to gain permanent residence. This program is very often considered an alternate to federal skilled worker program by temporary foreign workers in Canada. Almost all the provinces in Canada have an agreement with the Government of Canada that allows them to nominate immigrants who wish to settle in the respective province.

There are some benefits of this program. Every province has its own selection criteria. In most of the provinces even applicants working in low skilled jobs can be eligible for nomination and language testing requirements are not as strict as the federal program. This is not a point based system so it is relatively easy to qualify. Temporary foreign workers already working in Canada have a fairly good chance of being nominated in the province where they are working. Once the province nominates them an application for permanent residence can be filed with the Canadian immigration.

Being nominated by the province however does not guarantee permanent residence. The applicant has to meet all other statutory requirements laid by Citizenship and Immigration Canada including the one which require people to be economically established before applying. Upon meeting all these conditions successfully only will a result in a permanent residence visa being issued.
